The Envirothon Asia Program embraces the true Marathon spirit — a test of endurance, strategy, and individual determination. One participant, one topic, five stages, and one 24-hour window to finish the full intellectual marathon.
Each student competes individually — your effort, judgment, endurance, and achievement are entirely your own.
Students still register through their schools, and school scores are computed from the results of their registered students.
The marathon follows a single 2027 Marathon Topic: The Carbon Cycle — How Carbon Became Civilization's Problem — a continuous course that becomes progressively deeper.
All participants receive the same content. The five stages are completed in order, and each stage builds upon the journey before it.
The test consists of 5 mandatory stages, each up to 2 hours — a total of 10 active hours of testing.
A stage may be submitted early, but unused time does not carry forward to the next stage.
Your personal 24-hour window begins when you open Stage 1 — start at your chosen time within the global event window and finish within one day.
The active test clock stops when a stage is submitted or its two hours expire. The 24-hour deadline is a hard stop and overrides any remaining stage time.
Your result is the total points earned across all five stages.
Because the content becomes progressively more advanced, the score reflects both accuracy and the depth you reached.
Questions within each stage are drawn from four diverse sources, appearing in a mixed sequence:
Type A: Questions from official preparatory materials
Type B: Questions from on-site learning materials provided with the question
Type C: Common sense and knowledge questions with no materials given — testing foundational understanding
Type D: Extremely challenging and frontier questions relying on your knowledge and analytical skills — pushing the boundaries of environmental science
Questions appear in mixed order within each stage, creating an unpredictable challenge.
There is no minimum break between stages — you may begin the next stage immediately, or rest and recover.
You may leave the testing environment, rest, eat, and review official preparatory material and your own notes. You may not consult other people or use unofficial online resources.
All five stages are mandatory. Complete them within 24 hours to become an official Envirothon Asia finisher.
An incomplete course receives Did Not Finish status. Completed stages cannot be reopened.
Victory condition: The participant with the highest total score wins.
Just like a traditional marathon, this competition tests not only knowledge but also endurance, self-management, and personal strategy. Participants manage their own 24-hour time budget, pace their effort across five stages, and push themselves to cross the finish line with the best possible score.

Sign Up for Envirothon Asia 2027
All students participating in Envirothon Asia must register through their respective schools to account for the school's scores. The deadline for Envirothon Asia 2027 registration is March 7, 2027.
Envirothon Asia entrusts EAE (Extracurricular Activity Excellence) for managing registration. Teachers can log into the EAE system to register, and distribute the school-specific registration forms to students for completion. If you do not have an EAE account, please fill out the School Registration form below, and we will set up an EAE account for you.

Returning Schools: If your school has participated in Envirothon Asia before, we will automatically create this year's School Registration for you. Simply log in to our system with your existing account to access the registration link for your students.

A tradition of international exchange and excellence
As a tradition of international exchange, countries and regions in Asia with a historical track record of Envirothon popularity and participation will have top schools being invited to participate in the Envirothon North America annual final in the summer of the year, based on the school ranking below.
Schools with 5 or more participating students will be included in the school ranking. Schools are ranked by the average score of their top 5 student scores, and the top 3 ranked schools will each receive an invitation to the Envirothon North America annual final.
The invitation is optional and not obligatory. Invited schools and their students can choose whether to accept or decline the invitation based on their circumstances.
For logistics simplification, the invitation is not transferrable to other schools or students even if the invited school declined it. Each invitation is specifically extended to the qualifying school.
Students who accepted the invitation will enjoy the same logistics expenses set to North American teams, which is subsidized by sponsors, universities and organizers. However, they need to cover their own international travel and visa application by their own.
