In 2016, Envirothon China joined the NCF-Envirothon as a partner nation program and held its first Envirothon competition in China. Partnering with the Duke Kunshan University, Fudan University and Shanghai Knowledge Innovation Center, the Envirothon China program continues to grow each year. In 2021, an estimated 2000 students from across China participated in the Envirothon China program and competition.
Envirothon China 2022-2023
In order to better comply with Chinese policies and regulations, starting from the 2022-2023 academic year, Envirothon's licensed activities in China will be transformed into EnvirothonX activities. EnvirothonX is licensed by Envirothon and uses Envirothon's academic standards and activities, but does not rank. Rather, it awards students with appropriate performance grades based on objective criteria derived from historical data.
Starting from the 2022-2023 academic year, the Green Intelligence Summit (GIS) event organized by Envirothon China and its operator will serve as a replacement for the previous Envirothon National Competition. As an EnvirothonX event licensed by Envirothon, GIS retains the original Envirothon academic system and content. GIS independently awards certificates based on student performance, but does not rank or award ranking prizes. The top performers will still be invited to participate in the Envirothon annual final.
The 2023-2024 EnvirothonX Aptitude Assessment was held on February 16, 2023. Qualified students participated in the Envirothon GIS Annual Academic Summit at Fudan University from April 8 to April 9, 2023.
